Daniel and his friends have troubles with Indians on their way to Kentucky.
Blacksmith Pinto Peters calls on his old friend, Sam "Hurricane" Benton, to help him clear his son, Jimmy, of a murder charge. Hot-headed Jimmy, believes that the best way to cure a man of cheating at cards is to shoot him. He didn't shoot him enough, as the gambler only feigns death as part of a plot to gain possession of land owned by Pinto, as they know there is gold on the land buried there by an outlaw gang years ago.
The story concentrates on a travelling medicine show maintained by Bobby Clark and his relatives Minerva Urecal, Earle Hodgins and Joyce Bryant. Their progress is impeded when Hodgins is framed on a robbery charge, but Clark uses his fancy lariat to hog-tie the genuine crooks.
Dissension arises between cattlemen in Osage County, Texas, and sheepherders who have settled there and use the same watering stream. Mart Dalton, son of a wealthy cattleman, quarrels with and kills one of the settlers, thus placing sheriff Larry Williams in a delicate position; for he is Mart's best friend and is engaged to Mart's sister June. However, sworn to do his duty, he arrests Mart, incensing the cattlemen, who help Mart escape, leaving Larry wounded.
Tom Cameron learns that his twin brother is with a group of German spies. They intend to thwart the government's efforts to round up horses for military service.
Lance Lighton is arrested for vagrancy and taken by the sheriff to the Rogers Ranch. Dickie Rogers takes a liking to the stranger who is allowed to remain to do odd jobs and to entertain the boy. An old man who is hard of hearing mistakes Lighton for "Lightning" and the nickname sticks. Uncle Henry, heir to Dickie's share of the estate in the event of the latter's death, has been systematically cheated at cards by Bill Harvey, who now demands his money, using dire threats. Fearing a penitentiary sentence, Uncle Henry sees Dickie rolling helplessly in his wheel chair towards a cliff and does nothing to save him. Lazy Lightning saves the boy's life and the uncle covers himself by pretending to have sprained his ankle. Following the fright, the boy weakens and is close to death. The doctor thinks he can save him with serum. Uncle Henry goes in the car to get the serum. Mistrusting him, Lazy follows him to town on horseback through a driving rainstorm. A lost film.
A film company is shooting a western on location when the star breaks his leg. A local mule herder, who had never acted before, is "shanghaied" into taking over the role. Complications ensue.

Wedding guests awaiting the arrival of the bride suddenly become nervous when they notice that the table has been laid for 13... an ominous number. Their worries are confirmed when the bridal carriage pulls up outside bearing the lifeless bride and the corpses of three other guests. The suspicions rise between the thirteen guests, and the identity of the murderer is a shocking surprise.
Wolfdog pup, Baree, is nursed back to health by a trapper's daughter after being caught in one of the traps.
Bounty hunters Dutch and Malone travel The Wastes to track down their target, The Thumb.
John Farnum returns from India with the 'secret of the jewels', two small chains that turn sand into jewels. Outlaws know about the chains and are after them. But Tom, sidekick Bud, and the wonder dog King are there to repeatedly fight off their attempts.
Outlaws are in control of the land so the town of Clayton City writes the governor for an honest marshal. That marshal is Frank Lane, who brings his son Rocky with him.
Cowboy Rick, on his way to visit his sweetheart, encounters a bevy of beautiful Indian maidens and dallies with one of them. Later, when one of the girls is murdered by a passing no-good, the tribe falsely blames Rick and sentences him to die. But Tuwanna, the chief's daughter with whom Rick, um, dallied, has other ideas.
The plot finds Steve/Durango attempting to capture ex-Civil War guerilla fighter Miller who may be the man who's been going around knocking down telegraph wires.
This time the Durango Kid confronts an expert gambler.
John Ashby and Allene Houston, two neighboring ranchers, are in love, but their parents' violent dispute over the route of the new X. Y. Z. Railroad eventually drives them apart. Colonel Houston and the elder Ashby are killed in a fight, leaving John and Allene to continue the feud, John accepting a job with the railroad company and Allene swearing never to cross their property.
