South of Northern Lights

1922 Movie

Falsely accused of murder by a gang that wants to obtain possession of his ranch (on which gold has been discovered) northwestern rancher Jack Hampton flees across the border into Canada pursued by the Northwest Mounted Police and an American sheriff. Chick Rawlins, the gang's leader, runs a place at a trading post, and the Canadian authorities have sent Jane Wilson into the camp to get evidence against him. Captured by the crooks, she has been imprisoned in the mountains. Her escape develops into a long chase by the crooks, Hampton, and his pursuers.

They survive, but during the course of the struggle, the cattle hands learn the truth and ensure that justice gets served.

Custer's Last Stand

The feature length version of the serial by the same name. A mystical medicine arrow, the key to a lost gold treasure, is lost in one of many Indian attacks. It is recovered by the only two survivors, a Major and his daughter, who become the targets of those who wish to possess it. General George Armstrong Custer and army scout Kid Cardigan attempt to stop the ensuing war over the arrow, but fail in their efforts, which becomes the historic Custer's Last Stand.

Ernie Willard, Dorrie's brother, has been taken in by Tex Laughlin who is using the Willard ranch as an undercover for his real occupation as a member of a gang of outlaws led by Tim Douglas, a supposed friend of the Willards.

The Bar C is run by Buck Moran, and he and his cowboys are a lawless bunch. They don't know about the gold, but Dave Moore does, and so does his daughter Bobbie, whom he dresses up like a boy. Her true gender is eventually sussed out by the stranger.
